Michael Jackson Biopic Sparks Mixed Reactions From His Children
The much-anticipated biographical film Michael, based on the life of pop legend Michael Jackson, was released in theaters on April 24, 2026. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film explores the rise to fame of the iconic singer, beginning with his early days in the Jackson 5 and extending into his global stardom and personal life.
The lead role is portrayed by Jaafar Jackson, whose performance has drawn attention from both fans and family members. However, reactions from Michael Jackson’s three children—Paris Jackson, Prince Jackson, and Bigi Jackson—have been notably mixed.
Paris Jackson has been openly critical of the film, raising concerns about its accuracy and her lack of involvement. She has repeatedly clarified that she had no role in the project, stating, “Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol. That is so weird.” She also expressed skepticism about the film’s direction, adding, “They’re gonna make whatever they’re gonna make.”
“The big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it” because it “panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in a fantasy.”
In contrast, Prince Jackson has shown strong support for the film. As a producer, he was actively involved during its development and frequently visited the set. He praised Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal, stating that watching his cousin “step into the role of his uncle Michael” is “incredibly special for the family. With his talent, dedication and spirit, he was the only right choice to portray Michael and bring his story to the big screen.”
Meanwhile, Bigi Jackson has remained largely silent regarding the film’s content. Although he has not issued any public comments, he attended the Berlin premiere alongside his brother, where both paid tribute to their father through coordinated formal attire.
The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as John Branca. Additional performances include Kendrick Sampson portraying Quincy Jones and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy.
As Michael continues to draw global attention, the differing perspectives of Jackson’s children have added another layer of public interest to the film’s release.
