Dur-e-Fishan Faces Accent Criticism as Sanam Saeed and Celebrities Defend Her

The newly released Pakistani drama Dar-e-Nijaat sparked a wave of discussion and online trolling on social media over actress Dur-e-Fishan Saleem’s accent, eventually leading to strong support from fellow celebrities.

Following the premiere of its first three episodes sparked criticism over Dur-e-Fishan’s dialogue delivery and English accent. While fans remained divided over her pronunciation, prompting several well-known celebrities to show their support for the actress.

Among those supporting Dur-e-Fishan was acclaimed actress Sanam Saeed, who expressing discomfort over the actress being heavily criticized for her accent and questioned the intense focus on the actress’s accent and criticized the repeated online criticism against her.

“It’s a bit unsettling and honestly very lame to see everyone so obsessed over an actor’s accent. It’s downright mean and inconsiderate of someone’s feelings to have every page on social media bashing her,” she wrote.

Actor Umer Aalam joined the discussion in support of Dur-e-Fishan, reminding critics that everyone has their own distinct speaking style. He distinguished that the increasing use of polished and AI-generated voices may have influenced how audiences recognize ordinary speech.

Umer Aalam wrote: “AI wali audio sun sun kar inhein original accent ajeeb lag raha hai. Every human has a distinct way of speaking, that makes them unique. Matlab drama, story, shoot sab ignore karke jealous ho rahe hain.”

Drama critic Dr. Ejaz Waris joined those supporting Dur-e-Fishan, and noted the contradictory expectations placed on actors when it comes to their accents.

He remarked, “Don’t know why people are criticizing the accent. Pakistani accent mein bolo to problem, fake accent banao to problem. People can never be happy.”

Meanwhile, Drama critic Dr Ejaz Waris further defended Dur-e-Fishan by highlighting the contradictory expectations actors often face over their accents.

The criticism began after the drama’s premiere, which followed intense online discussion about Dur-e-Fishan’s performance. Some viewers criticized her accent and pronunciation, while others debated whether her dialogue delivery felt natural for the character.
