Notable Advancement in Pakistan’s Trade and Economic Ties with African Nations
Thanks to Pakistan’s expansion in global trade links, trade relations with African countries, especially Kenya and Ethiopia, are strengthening.
Exports to Kenya recorded a 32 percent increase during July-March 2025. Total exports increased from $251.6 million to $319.9 million. Rice, textiles, pharmaceuticals, IT services, and renewable energy products contributed significantly to the increase in exports.
Former Chief Executive of TDAP Muhammad Zubair Motiwala said that Pakistani exports to African markets have increased significantly, and there are vast opportunities in key sectors including pharma, rice, plastics, and textiles. Effective lobbying is needed for global approval of pharma products.
On the other hand, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Omar Hussein Oba also held an important meeting. The meeting emphasized the promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), joint investments, and industrial cooperation in African markets.
SIFC should play an effective role in making “Made in Pakistan” a marketable brand in the global market. He said that ‘B2B’ linkages and ‘B2G’ delegations are indispensable for accessing global markets and expanding business. Pakistan’s trade strength at the international level is a positive step towards the country’s economic development and increase in exports.
