Flights Resume at Imam Khomeini International Airport After 57 Days
Flights have resumed at Iran’s main international airport, Imam Khomeini International Airport, after a 57-day closure that was suspended due to wartime conditions.
According to officials, limited flight operations resumed a few days ago after Iranian airspace was reopened.
According to reports, on normal days, about 100 to 150 flights used to operate from this airport daily; however, in the current situation, this number has reduced to 10 to 15 flights.
Officials say that flight operations are gradually being restored and activities are also gradually increasing in the airport terminals.
The recovery comes at a time when Iran has suffered extensive infrastructure damage during the recent war. Another airport in Tehran, Mehrabad, which is used mostly for domestic flights, was hit several times during the war. Airports in other cities, including Tabriz and Urmia, were also hit, damaging several civilian aircraft.
Experts say Iran’s aviation sector has already been under sanctions for a long time, and the recent losses have put further strain on the system. Passengers say that while the resumption of flights is a positive step, the situation is not yet fully normal.
Passengers at the airport expressed mixed emotions, including hope, uncertainty, and concerns. Although the ceasefire is currently in place, the public is concerned about whether this peace will be lasting or whether tensions could flare up again in the region.
