PM Shehbaz forms committee to review One Constitution Avenue case

01 May, 2026 19:15

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee to review the One Constitution Avenue case in Islamabad.

According to an official statement, the committee will be led by Azam Nazeer Tarar. It will also include Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, along with cabinet and commerce secretaries.

The committee has been asked to fully examine the matter and submit a report to the prime minister within one week.

Officials said the panel will hear all affected people and stakeholders fairly. Anyone with concerns will be allowed to present their case.

The government has also ordered that no further action will be taken by the Islamabad administration or the Capital Development Authority until the prime minister makes a final decision.

The move came after authorities carried out an overnight evacuation operation at One Constitution Avenue on Thursday. This happened after the Islamabad High Court upheld the cancellation of the building’s lease over unpaid dues.

The dispute is linked to a five-star hotel project launched nearly two decades ago. Later, it was converted into apartments and commercial units.

The CDA said the developer paid only Rs2.9 billion out of total dues of Rs17.5 billion.

The case has gained public attention because reports say several well-known personalities owned apartments in the building, including Imran Khan, Aitzaz Ahsan, Nasirul Mulk and Kashmala Tariq.
