Iran to Convert University Bomb Site into Museum After US-Israeli Strikes Damage Isfahan Campus
Iranian authorities have announced plans to convert a damaged section of a university in central Iran into a museum, preserving evidence of the impact of US-Israeli strikes on the country’s academic infrastructure.
“The current damaged site will be preserved as a war museum at the university to remain a document of the country’s scientific oppression in history,” said Zafarollah Kalantari, head of Isfahan University of Technology, according to IRNA.
He further stated that alternative land has already been allocated for “the construction of a new building and provision of advanced equipment” to restore and upgrade the university’s facilities.
Initial assessments estimate the damage to buildings and infrastructure at around $11 million. The institution, one of the largest universities in Iran, was reportedly hit during US-Israeli strikes in March amid a wider conflict that began a month earlier and later spread across the region.
Authorities claim that more than 30 universities across Iran were affected by strikes, including institutions in Tehran as well as residential and civilian areas. The situation has raised concerns over damage to educational infrastructure during the conflict.
A ceasefire has been in place since April 8, bringing a pause to active hostilities while reconstruction and assessment efforts continue.
