Iran Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Beirut as Lebanon Ceasefire Remains Fragile

08 May, 2026 11:10

Iran has sharply criticized Israel following deadly airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, amid an already fragile ceasefire situation.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the attacks early Friday, saying the Israeli strikes on the Dahiyeh district killed and injured several Lebanese civilians while also damaging infrastructure.

Baghaei offered condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the Lebanese government and people. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured during the attacks.

According to the spokesman, Israel’s military actions in Lebanon and the alleged use of prohibited weapons, including phosphorus bombs, are linked to the political and military support provided by the United States, Germany, and Britain.

Baghaei further called on the United Nations Security Council and governments around the world to fulfill their responsibilities in prosecuting those responsible for war crimes.

Despite a ceasefire agreement announced on April 17 and later extended until May 17, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have reportedly continued through regular airstrikes and destruction of residential properties in southern villages.

The conflict has caused widespread devastation in Lebanon. Official figures cited in the report state that since March 2, Israeli attacks have killed at least 2,700 people, injured more than 8,300, and displaced over 1.6 million residents.

The report also noted that Israel continues to maintain a military presence in parts of southern Lebanon, including territories occupied for decades as well as areas entered during the 2023-2024 conflict.
