Islamabad announces traffic diversion plan for May 10 Marka-e-Haq celebrations
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a traffic diversion plan for Sunday, May 10, due to the “Marka-e-Haq” event. Several major roads in the city will be closed from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM to manage security and traffic flow.
According to the traffic advisory, Srinagar Highway from Kodianwala Chowk to Peshawar Mor will remain closed in both directions. The Islamabad Expressway from Faizabad to Khayaban Chowk on Faisal Avenue will also be shut during the same time period.
The traffic police have asked citizens to use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. Motorists traveling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi or nearby areas have been advised to follow specific diversions through major roads like 9th Avenue, IJP Road, Jinnah Avenue, Murree Road, and Margalla Road.
For example, people going from the Motorway to Bhara Kahu or Murree should use 9th Avenue via Murree Road, while those heading towards the Red Zone are advised to use Jinnah Avenue or Margalla Road from Peshawar Mor.
Similarly, traffic coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can use IJP Road and 9th Avenue. Residents in different sectors have also been given alternative routes depending on their destination.
Authorities also said that all light transport vehicles (LTVs) will be diverted towards Rawat T Cross from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Entry of heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) will be completely banned from 4:00 AM to midnight.
Officials said the plan is necessary for public safety and smooth traffic management during the high-security event. Citizens have been advised to plan their travel in advance to avoid delays.
