Far Cry 7 leaks uncover key details of upcoming Ubisoft game

14 May, 2026 14:43

Ubisoft has a leak problem — and Far Cry 7 just became its latest casualty. A credible leaker operating under the name Rogue dropped a significant volume of details about the unannounced title before Ubisoft responded aggressively, issuing DMCA takedowns and reportedly pressuring accounts into deletion. The swift corporate reaction, ironically, did more to confirm the leaks than deny them.

What the Leaks Actually Reveal

The setting alone marks a sharp departure from Far Cry’s tropical and rural American roots. Far Cry 7 takes place in Alaska — cold, remote, and brutal. The narrative centers on rescuing your family, a premise that shifts the series toward more personal, survival-driven storytelling rather than the ideological villain spectacles that defined Far Cry 5 and 6.

Most intriguingly, a time-based mechanic sits at the game’s core. Rogue shared an audio clip from what appeared to be an internal trailer — action sequences underscored by an insistent ticking clock. Ubisoft’s immediate DMCA strike on that clip strongly suggests it was genuine. If accurate, this mechanic could fundamentally change how players engage with Far Cry’s traditionally open-world structure, introducing urgency and consequence that the series has long avoided.

Character customization returns, with gender selection reportedly confirmed. An early development image allegedly depicted a male protagonist with a rugged, bearded appearance — though early builds rarely reflect final designs.

The Multiplayer Twist Nobody Saw Coming

Perhaps the biggest structural revelation is how Ubisoft has packaged the game. Far Cry 7 and a separate multiplayer project were originally developed independently. Ubisoft has since merged both into one release.

The multiplayer component is an Extraction shooter — a genre where teams enter a zone, complete objectives, and must successfully escape with their loot or risk losing everything. It runs completely separately from the single-player campaign and features its own dedicated map called “Paradise Park.” This bundling strategy mirrors what Ubisoft attempted with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s post-launch content, but executed here at the product level from launch.

Extraction shooters remain competitive and difficult to sustain — Ubisoft’s own XDefiant struggled before shutdown. Whether Far Cry’s brand loyalty translates into that genre is genuinely uncertain.

Credibility Check

Rogue’s track record matters here. The same leaker accurately revealed details about Assassin’s Creed Hexe before its announcement. Fellow leaker xJonathan corroborated the Far Cry 7 claims independently. Ubisoft’s aggressive DMCA response and Rogue’s account deletion on X add further weight to the information’s authenticity.

What to Expect Next

An official reveal is expected at Summer Game Fest or a dedicated Ubisoft event. A 2026 launch is off the table — 2027 is the realistic window. For a franchise that needs a commercial win after recent struggles, Far Cry 7’s Alaska gamble carries real stakes.
