Designer Hussain Rehar to Attend Cannes Film Festival Representing Pakistan

Pakistani fashion industry made a historic moment, designer Hussain Reher is designer Hussain Rehar is set to visit a city known for one of the entertainment industry’s biggest events.

Hussain Reher as a Pakistani designer represent his collection Lahore — A Knot in South Asia’s Loom alongside the Cannes Film Festival’s 79th edition today (Friday). The exhibition will be an invite-only event at Château St George.

Rehar revealed the event details through an Instagram post on his brand’s page, calling the collection, “a decolonisation of fashion’s origin story told through Lahore, craftsmanship and South Asian authorship”.

In the post he mentioned about his theme that he will showcase and wrote’ “celebrates Lahore as a source of fashion, craft and cultural inspiration”.

Addressing the anti-colonial inspiration behind the collection, Rehar noted “confronts fashion’s erasure of South Asian craftsmanship, calling out how traditions like zardozi, phulkari, khussa and maang tikka have been renamed and stripped of their origins”.

The designer more said “You cannot rename what you did not make… If a kimono can be called a kimono, then a dupatta should be called a dupatta”.

Further elaborate that it was not just a collection, it was “a return of signature, stitch and source”.  According to his post, it reflects of Lahore and the Subcontinent’s influence on global fashion and craftsmanship.

This marks yet another appearance by the designer in one of fashion’s leading cities. In October during Paris Fashion week, he also showcases his collection Jeevan

Earlier, Natasha Kamal took part in PFW 2017, presenting her collection in a special exhibition of couturiers from 14 countries designed to promote peace through cultural dialogue.
