Concerns raised over harmful medicines linked to Indian pharma companies

Reports have raised concerns about the global spread of harmful medicines linked to Indian pharmaceutical companies, which are allegedly causing serious health risks in different countries.

According to an international journal, Pharmacy Business, there are growing concerns about the role of Indian drug manufacturers in the global rise of dangerous and addictive medicines, sometimes referred to as “zombie drugs” in parts of Africa.

The report claims that certain opioid-based medicines have contributed to a major health crisis in the United States, with a large number of deaths reported over time, leading to stricter regulations on their use.

It further states that large quantities of synthetic opioid medicines are being sent from India to countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Ghana without proper authorization, increasing the risk of drug abuse in these regions.

The report also highlights that such substances are contributing to a rise in addiction and public health challenges in several African countries. In Sierra Leone’s capital alone, hundreds of deaths were reportedly recorded within a short period due to these drugs.

Experts warn that these harmful medicines are also being misused by criminal networks and even terrorist groups to support illegal activities.

In addition, concerns have been raised about cough syrups produced in India, which have reportedly been linked to child deaths in countries like Uzbekistan, The Gambia, and in parts of occupied Kashmir.

Health experts say that the global spread of such dangerous medicines has created serious international concerns, and stronger regulations and monitoring are needed to prevent further loss of lives.
