Rangers Arrest Karachi Street Crime Kingpin in Surjani Crackdown

19 May, 2026 10:38

Salman alias Mulla ran a robbery network across multiple Karachi neighborhoods. Rangers found him — along with Rs130 million in confessed heists.

Sindh Rangers conducted a targeted operation in Karachi’s Surjani Town, arresting five members of a street crime gang including its ringleader, Salman alias Mulla, in one of the more significant law enforcement actions against organized street crime in the area this year.

The operation and its results were confirmed through official Sindh Rangers spokesperson statements released Wednesday.

What the Operation Recovered

The arrested suspects were found in possession of weapons, ammunition, mobile phones, and stolen motorcycles — the operational toolkit of a gang running street robberies and vehicle snatching across multiple Karachi neighborhoods simultaneously.

The mobile phones recovered are particularly significant from an investigative standpoint. In modern street crime operations, phones contain contact networks, transaction records, and coordination evidence that can map the broader gang structure beyond the individuals physically arrested.

The Rs130 Million Confession

Perhaps the most significant detail to emerge from initial interrogation is the suspects’ confession to robberies valued at approximately Rs130 million. This figure transforms the Mulla gang from a local street crime nuisance into a substantially organized criminal enterprise — one that has been systematically extracting significant value from Karachi residents across an extended period.

Sindh Rangers confirmed that the arrested individuals are habitual criminals with multiple cases already registered against them across various Karachi police stations. This prior record means the gang’s activity predates this operation significantly, and that previous arrests either did not include the ringleader or did not result in prosecution sufficient to disrupt operations.

The Surjani Context

Surjani Town in northern Karachi has historically faced elevated street crime pressure due to its dense population, limited formal economic opportunity, and geographic position as a transit corridor between multiple districts. Motorcycle snatching and armed robbery have been persistent concerns for residents in the area.

Rangers operations in Surjani represent a pattern of deploying paramilitary capacity in areas where police presence alone has been insufficient to suppress organized criminal activity. The handover of arrested suspects to police for further legal proceedings follows standard protocol — Rangers conduct the arrest operation, police manage prosecution.

Operations Continuing

Sindh Rangers confirmed that operations to arrest remaining gang members are ongoing. The arrests of five individuals, including the ringleader, does not necessarily dismantle the network entirely — criminal organizations typically have deputy leadership structures and operational continuity mechanisms that survive the arrest of a single figurehead.

The recovered stolen motorcycles will be processed for return to owners where registration records permit identification — a practical benefit for victims of vehicle snatching that extends beyond the immediate law enforcement outcome.

Whether the Rs130 million confession leads to asset recovery or remains a figure in an interrogation record will depend on the quality of the follow-up investigation now in police hands.
