Pakistan Railways Suspends 8 Passenger Trains Temporarily Amid Rising Fuel Prices and Operational Costs

21 May, 2026 10:20

Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended the operations of eight passenger trains due to rising diesel prices and increased operational expenses.

According to railway officials, the continuous surge in petroleum product prices, along with reduced passenger turnout on certain routes, has made it financially difficult to maintain regular train services. As a result, the administration decided to suspend several services to reduce fuel-related costs.

Media reports, citing sources within the department, confirmed that the suspended trains include Mehran Express, Chaman Express, Marvi Express, Ravi Express, Samman Sarkar, Mohenjodaro, Bolan Mail, and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said the decision is temporary and services will resume once financial conditions improve and operational pressures ease.

He further stated that the department is exploring alternative arrangements and operational strategies to reduce passenger inconvenience while ensuring efficient use of resources under current economic challenges.
