16 Killed, 8 Injured as Van Collides With Bus on Swat Expressway Near Peshawar

25 May, 2026 10:59

The death toll from a devastating road accident on the Swat Expressway near Peshawar has risen to 16, with eight others reported injured, motorway police confirmed. The updated figures reflect the worsening scale of one of the deadliest road crashes recorded on the expressway in recent times.

The fatal collision occurred when a passenger van crashed into a bus on the Swat Expressway. Emergency rescue teams responded immediately, transporting the bodies of all victims along with the injured to Mardan Medical Complex for medical treatment and completion of legal formalities. The identities of those killed and injured had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.

Preliminary investigations by motorway police indicate that negligence on the part of the van driver was the primary cause of the catastrophic collision. No further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash have been officially released.

The tragedy comes alongside another devastating road accident reported earlier, in which seven people — including three women and two children — were killed when two luxury vehicles collided near Yakmuch in Dalbadin. Police confirmed the victims comprised two men, three women, and two children, with three additional individuals injured. Rescue teams transported the bodies and the wounded to a nearby hospital.

The consecutive deadly incidents have once again cast a harsh spotlight on Pakistan’s persistent road safety crisis, with driver negligence and inadequate enforcement of traffic regulations continuing to claim lives across the country’s major highways and expressways.
