Saba Qamar to Play Alleged Drug Dealer Anmol ‘Pinky’ in New Biographical Drama Series

01 June, 2026 16:43

Pakistani actress Saba Qamar is set to portray Anmol, widely known as “Pinky,” in a new biographical drama centred on the woman who became one of Pakistan’s most talked-about figures following her arrest in Karachi in May. Pinky had been referred to in media reports as an alleged “cocaine queen,” and her case drew intense national attention almost immediately after news of the arrest broke.

Shahzeb Khanzada Behind the Script — Again

The screenplay is reportedly being written by journalist and dramatist Shahzeb Khanzada, who previously collaborated with Qamar on Case No. 9 — a critically noted project that tackled a serious social issue. His return to work with Qamar on another real-life story signals a deliberate creative direction for both the writer and the actress. The biopic is expected to explore the events surrounding Pinky’s arrest, her notoriety, and the intense media and public scrutiny that followed.

A Pattern of Powerful Real-Life Roles

The casting announcement surprised few who follow Qamar’s career closely. She has built a reputation as one of Pakistan’s most fearless performers, having previously starred in Baaghi — based on the life of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch, who was murdered by her brother in July 2016 in an honour killing — as well as Cheekh, which addressed sexual violence. Both productions were groundbreaking for Pakistani television in their willingness to confront subjects that mainstream drama had long avoided.

Fans React — and the Debate Begins

Reaction on social media was swift and divided. Many fans praised the casting decision, viewing it as a natural extension of Qamar’s body of work. Critics, however, questioned whether the project serves a meaningful purpose, arguing that biographical dramas should spotlight inspiring figures rather than alleged criminals, and cautioning that such productions risk being mistaken for endorsements. One viewer defended the concept, noting that the goal of such a drama is to examine the darker, more complex dimensions of a real story — not to celebrate the subject.

Weeks before the announcement, digital creator Bilal Hassan had publicly predicted the casting, writing that Pakistan should produce the project before Bollywood does — a remark that, in retrospect, appeared remarkably prescient.

Production Details Still Under Wraps

No filming schedule, production house, or broadcast platform has been officially confirmed as of yet. In the meantime, Qamar remains active on screen in Muamma, a drama set in a historical haveli in which she plays the lead character Jahan Ara.
