Christina Ashten Gourkani Case Update: Cosmetologist Vivian Alexandra Gomez Sentenced to Four Years Over Instagram Star's Death
The criminal case surrounding the death of Instagram personality Christina Ashten Gourkani has reached its conclusion. Cosmetologist Vivian Alexandra Gomez has been sentenced to four years in prison for illegally administering butt injections that led to Christina’s death in 2023.
Christina, widely recognized online for her striking resemblance to Kim Kardashian, died on April 20, 2023, of cardiac arrest shortly after undergoing a cosmetic procedure. Gomez’s sentencing follows her conviction earlier this year on charges of felony involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license.

Who Was Christina Ashten Gourkani?
Christina was 34 at the time of her death. Born on October 22, 1988, into an Iranian-American family, she developed a passion for performance early on, participating in theater competitions throughout her childhood. That creative instinct eventually translated into a major online following, with more than 600,000 Instagram followers and a substantial presence on OnlyFans.
Her family confirmed her passing through a now-deactivated GoFundMe page, describing being notified by someone close to her during the early morning hours. In their tribute, they remembered her warmth and her instinct for making people feel seen, writing that she “was the kind of person that would kneel down and talk to children at eye level” and had a gift for connecting with people.
How the Fatal Procedure Unfolded
The procedure took place inside a California hotel room, where Gomez allegedly administered illegal silicone butt injections. Christina soon became unwell and went into respiratory failure. Gomez’s fiancée, who was present at the scene, contacted emergency authorities once Christina’s condition deteriorated.
Gomez was arrested in April 2023, shortly after Christina’s death. Following the arrest, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael K. Obeng warned publicly about the dangers of unregulated silicone injections, explaining that such substances can travel through the bloodstream and block blood vessels.
“As with any injection, it can go into your bloodstream. And if it gets in the bloodstream, it can block the blood vessels and cause necrosis [or dead tissue]. So that’s a huge danger,” Dr. Obeng said.
The Legal Outcome
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe stated that Christina died from a pulmonary embolism caused by an infection, with silicone traces later detected in her bloodstream. The District Attorney’s Office confirmed via X that Gomez was found guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license. Despite previously being released on bail, Gomez was taken back into custody immediately following her conviction. Her four-year sentence brings the years-long case to a formal close.
