Iranian Supreme Leader Praises Officials Over U.S. Memorandum Criticizes American Negotiating Tactics

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has commended Iranian officials for what he described as their “compassion and goodwill” in reaching a memorandum of understanding with the United States, while criticizing the conduct of the American administration during the negotiations.
Speaking on the recent agreement, Khamenei said Iranian negotiators had demonstrated a constructive and responsible approach aimed at safeguarding national interests and promoting stability. He praised officials involved in the talks for their efforts and commitment to diplomacy.
At the same time, the Iranian leader argued that the U.S. president had relied on various forms of political and economic leverage throughout the negotiations. According to Khamenei, these tactics reflected a position of weakness and desperation rather than strength.
Khamenei also argued that President Donald Trump sought to capitalize on Iran’s challenging circumstances during the negotiations, including economic pressures and regional tensions, in an effort to secure greater concessions from Tehran. According to the Iranian leader, Washington attempted to use sanctions, diplomatic pressure, and other leverage points to gain an advantage at the negotiating table. He maintained, however, that Iran’s negotiating team remained firm and prevented external pressure from undermining the country’s core interests and principles
The memorandum of understanding is viewed as a significant step in ongoing efforts to address key issues between Tehran and Washington. While details of the agreement have not been fully disclosed, officials from both sides have indicated that it could contribute to reducing tensions and opening the door to further dialogue.
