Israeli Envoy Disrupts UN Hearing During Clash Over Conflict Report

A United Nations hearing on children affected by conflict turned into a heated confrontation on Friday after Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, clashed with senior UN officials during an event marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Danon demanded the resignation of Pramila Patten, accusing her of bias over a recent UN report that listed Israel for alleged conflict-related sexual violence violations.
The dispute escalated when Vanessa Frazier attempted to raise a procedural objection, urging Danon to avoid what she described as personal attacks and defending the findings as based on verified evidence. Danon interrupted her, telling her to “be quiet” and insisting on continuing his remarks, leading to a public shouting match that disrupted the session.
The confrontation highlights growing tensions between Israel and the United Nations over recent reports documenting alleged violations against Palestinian children and claims of conflict-related sexual violence. Israel has strongly rejected the findings as politically motivated, while UN officials maintain that their conclusions are based on verified evidence gathered through established monitoring mechanisms.
