Iran Highlights Strategic Energy Role at BRICS Ministers Meeting

The 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting, hosted by India in Gurugram last week, took place amid heightened geopolitical tensions and growing concerns over global energy security. The meeting followed months of instability in the Middle East, including the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran, which affected key maritime trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab el-Mandeb, and the Suez Canal.
Against this backdrop, Iran presented its participation in the BRICS gathering as a demonstration of its expanding importance in global energy discussions. Iranian officials argued that recent regional developments have reinforced the country’s strategic position in international energy security and highlighted its significance as a major energy producer and transit hub.
According to the Iranian perspective, BRICS is emerging as an influential geopolitical and economic bloc, with energy cooperation becoming a central pillar of its agenda. Tehran said its engagement at the meeting reflected its intention to play a greater role in shaping the future of global energy markets and strengthening collaboration with fellow BRICS members.
