US Reportedly Preparing Troop Deployment to Lebanon Under Israel–Lebanon Agreement

The Pentagon is reportedly preparing to deploy US ground forces to Lebanon to help implement a recently signed US-brokered agreement between Lebanon and Israel, according to media reports citing American officials. The agreement is said to include provisions for the disarmament of Hezbollah.

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that US troops would be stationed in Lebanon to monitor compliance by both sides with the terms of the deal. The report also indicated that American forces could be deployed in Israeli-occupied territories as part of the monitoring arrangement.

According to the report, officials from US Central Command (CENTCOM) would be responsible for reporting any alleged violations of the ceasefire framework directly to the US administration. However, CENTCOM chief Admiral Brad Cooper is not expected to play a direct supervisory role in the operation.
