Unregistered Lahore School Under Investigation After Roof Collapse Kills Child

Authorities have revealed that the private school in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area, where a roof collapse claimed the life of a 10-year-old child, was operating without official registration. According to the district administration, the school was running illegally, and an unauthorized summer camp was also being held on the premises. The accident occurred while construction work to expand the building was underway, causing the first floor to collapse. Rescue 1122 completed its operation, confirmed the site was cleared, and said all other children attending the summer camp were safely evacuated.
The district administration stated that the school’s management has been taken into custody, while an investigation is underway to determine responsibility for the incident. Officials are examining whether negligence, unauthorized construction, or safety violations contributed to the collapse, which also left several people injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the death of the child and extended condolences to the bereaved family. She directed the Lahore commissioner and the Director General of Rescue 1122 to submit an immediate report and ordered that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment. The chief minister also instructed authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible for negligence or substandard construction and announced an immediate safety audit of school buildings located in densely populated areas across the province to help prevent similar tragedies.
