The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and humid weather in most parts of the country today. However, isolated rain is expected in northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

According to the Met Office, most areas will remain warm and humid, while scattered rainfall is likely in a few northern regions.

During the last 24 hours, Nokkundi recorded the highest temperature in the country at 45°C. Dalbandin, Jacobabad and Dadu reached 44°C, while Sukkur recorded 43°C.

Temperatures also reached 41°C in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha and Chilas.

Muzaffarabad recorded a maximum temperature of 39°C. Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Gilgit reached 38°C, while Karachi recorded 37°C.

Meanwhile, severe heatwaves continue to affect many parts of the world. Experts say record-breaking temperatures in Europe have caused more illnesses, deaths and damage to infrastructure.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged European countries to prepare long-term plans to deal with extreme heat. Experts also warn that climate change and global warming could make severe heatwaves more common in the future.
