Pakistan to Fight for Water Rights on Every Forum Says Federal Minister

Federal Minister for Water Resources Musadik Malik has said that Pakistan will continue to raise its voice for water rights at every international forum, stressing that the issue is not only regional but global in nature. He made the remarks while addressing a conference attended by participants from around the world.
Malik said the discussion on water governance brought together diverse stakeholders and emphasized that think tanks are not merely platforms for exchanging ideas but also instruments for driving action and policy change. He added that rivers flowing across borders in Europe, Africa, and Latin America demonstrate the shared nature of water resources and the need for equitable management.
Referring to the Indus Waters Treaty, the minister said no country should be allowed to block water flows affecting millions of people. He urged the United Nations to move beyond passing resolutions and instead establish an enforcement mechanism to ensure compliance, warning that international institutions risk losing relevance if their decisions are not implemented.
