Trump Says US Accepts Iran’s Offer for Talks, Ceasefire Remains Over

US President Donald Trump on Friday said the United States had agreed to continue talks with Iran after Tehran requested that negotiations continue, while making it clear that the June ceasefire between the two countries had ended.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us ⁠to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!”

The United States and Iran traded strikes this week, with Iranian armed forces launching attacks on US military infrastructure in Gulf states on Thursday following US strikes on Iran’s southern coastal and eastern provinces.

The two countries had reached an interim agreement last month to end a four-month conflict that disrupted global energy supplies.

Trump has faced criticism over his handling of the conflict, with the ongoing tensions becoming a political issue ahead of the Republican Party’s midterm elections later this year amid high fuel prices and growing voter dissatisfaction.
