Omar Khalid Makes History, First Amateur to Win Sindh Open Golf Championship

Amateur golfer Omar Khalid created history by becoming the first amateur player to win the overall Sindh Open Golf Championship title in Karachi.
The young Pakistani golfer finished at seven-under par over 54 holes, defeating multiple professional players. Khalid finished two strokes ahead of professional leader Minhaj Maqsood, who won the professional category with five-under par.
“This achievement reflects Omar’s exceptional talent and dedication to the sport,” organizers noted. Sharan Ali Khan finished second in the amateur standings, while Syed Rayan Ahmed claimed third place.
Khalid’s victory adds to an already remarkable career. At 16, he became Pakistan’s youngest National Amateur Golf Championship winner and later the country’s youngest-ever No. 1 amateur golfer.
Internationally, Omar remains the only Pakistani golfer to win a professional tournament in the United States, capturing the Fendrich Open in Evansville, Indiana with a 14-under-par aggregate. He became the first Pakistani golfer to earn NCAA All-Conference honors while competing in NCAA Division I collegiate golf.
Omar also holds the distinction of being the first Pakistani golfer to make the cut at a US Golf Association event at the US Junior Amateur Championship. He recently represented Pakistan at the Asian Games and the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.
The 16-year record holder will continue his collegiate career at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning this August following his transfer from the University of Evansville.
