Iran Deputy FM Calls for Pre-Planned Response to Threats Against Supreme Leader

13 July, 2026 11:04

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has called for a new law that would set a clear response to any assassination attempt against the Leader of the Islamic Revolution or senior military and government officials.

In a post on X, Gharibabadi said the Supreme National Security Council or the Parliament should approve a practical regulation to define Iran’s “regret-inducing” response before any such incident takes place.

He said the proposal is a continuation of Iran’s policy of responding strongly to any military attack against the country.

“In continuation of the strategy of delivering a crushing response to any military aggression against the country, the Supreme National Security Council or the Parliament needs to approve a practical regulation that stipulates the Islamic Republic’s decisive and regret-inducing response in the event of any assassination attempt against the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, military and state officials, be predetermined in advance,” Gharibabadi wrote.

“No action against Iran should go unanswered,” he added.

Gharibabadi said a pre-approved legal framework would remove uncertainty about Iran’s response and strengthen the country’s deterrence.

His remarks come as Iran continues to say it is prepared to defend its interests and respond firmly to any threats against its leadership or national security.
