Trump Blames Iran for Collapsing Deal, Says Drone Attack Changed Everything

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington and Tehran were on the verge of reaching an agreement before an alleged Iranian drone attack disrupted the negotiations and prompted a military response from the United States.

In an interview with CNN, Trump said the US launched powerful strikes against Iranian targets following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which he blamed on Iran.

According to Trump, the United States carried out extensive military strikes against Iranian targets overnight on Sunday and Monday, arguing that Tehran’s actions had undermined efforts to finalize a diplomatic agreement.

Speaking in another television interview, Trump claimed that the United States and Iran had come very close to reaching a deal on Saturday and that Iranian officials had been prepared to accept nearly all of its terms.

However, he alleged that only two hours later, Iran launched a drone attack on a commercial vessel, abruptly changing the situation and bringing negotiations to a halt.

Expressing frustration, Trump said, “There is something wrong with those people,” while defending the US military response.

Despite the renewed tensions, Trump also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open to commercial shipping and that international maritime traffic continues through the strategic waterway.
