Khawaja Asif Criticizes Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s ‘Irresponsible’ Remarks on Martyrs’ Sacrifices

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized a statement by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, terming it an insult to the sacrifices of martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Khawaja Asif said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is an experienced politician and a prominent religious leader, and greater responsibility is expected from him in choosing his words.

The defence minister said linking the sacrifices of soldiers for the country to their salaries was not only unfair but also hurtful to the martyrs and their families.

“No one sacrifices their precious life merely for a salary,” Khawaja Asif stated, adding that such sacrifices are driven by ideology, faith, duty, and deep commitment to the nation.

He said differences could exist over circumstances, policies, or procedures, but the ideology, dedication, love for the country, and sacrifices of those who give their lives cannot be disrespected.

Khawaja Asif said the fight against terrorism is still ongoing, with personnel of the Pakistan Army, other security institutions, and civilians continuing to sacrifice their lives.

“Calling their sacrifices a result of salaries is not political criticism but moral insensitivity,” he added.

The defence minister further said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks had not only targeted an institution but also hurt the sentiments of thousands of martyrs, veterans, widows, and orphans.
