UNICEF: 90% of Afghan Children Affected by Severe Food Crisis
A new UNICEF report has warned that Afghanistan’s food crisis is worsening, with millions of children suffering from severe malnutrition and food insecurity.
According to UNICEF, widespread food shortages, poor healthcare, and limited access to clean water are putting Afghan children at serious risk.
The report says around 3.7 million Afghan children are facing severe food insecurity. It also found that 90% of children do not receive the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development.
UNICEF said 85% of children who need urgent treatment and nutritional support are under the age of two.
The report also noted that girls are experiencing higher rates of malnutrition and physical weakness than boys. It warned that severe malnutrition has increased the risk of death and serious health problems among children by six times.
The report highlights the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to address the growing food and nutrition crisis affecting children across Afghanistan.
