He also claimed that Netflix prefers stories that highlight a country’s darker realities.
“Netflix wants countries to show their dirt and dark side. They want filmmakers to present what’s really happening in their countries,” he said.
However, Faysal added that Pakistani filmmakers face limitations when it comes to telling such stories.
He remarked, “Pakistan can’t show everything that is happening here because the filmmaker who presents the real picture of the country may not be able to continue living here.”
He added that, Netflix’s business decisions depend on which markets generate the most income.
According to Faysal, many people in Pakistan watch Netflix using shared or borrowed accounts instead of paying for their own subscriptions.
He explained, “Some use accounts from friends or relatives abroad, while others share one subscription with several people. Netflix isn’t getting the same revenue from Pakistan that it gets from India because India’s market is much bigger.”
He more added that Pakistanis like better to get free access to movies and dramas instead of paid streaming platforms.
He said, “The first question people ask after a film is released is, ‘When will it be available on YouTube?”
Before wrapping up, Faysal Quraishi prolonging his best wishes to Hum TV for its forthcoming Netflix project, anticipating it would overlay the way for more Pakistani films and dramas on international streaming platforms.
