Trump Announces Reversal on Proposed Hormuz Transit Fee, Issues Fresh Warning to Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he is withdrawing a previously proposed 20% fee related to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, saying Gulf states will instead expand trade and investment in the United States. According to Trump, increased investment from the region will help finance new factories, industrial projects, and create millions of jobs in the U.S.
Speaking on the issue, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to all countries except Iran, while accusing Tehran of moving toward what he described as “total destruction.” He also reiterated his administration’s hardline stance toward Iran amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf.
The U.S. president further warned that a “complete naval blockade” would be imposed on Iran and claimed that vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports would be targeted. Such remarks represent a significant escalation in rhetoric. There has been no immediate response from Iranian officials to Trump’s latest statements, and no announcement has been made regarding any implementation of such measures under international maritime law.
