Karachi Port, Customs Performance Improves Under PM Maritime Reforms
Pakistan’s ports have shown significant improvement under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms, with better performance at Karachi Port Trust, Customs House, and container terminals.
The reforms have improved port operations, customs procedures, and cargo handling at Karachi Port.
Steps have been completed to improve port efficiency and speed up cargo clearance at Karachi Port Trust.
The introduction of the Green Channel, faceless Goods Declaration (GD) clearance, post-clearance audits, and customs reforms has made the clearance process faster and more efficient.
Container handling has also improved after increasing the capacity of Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited and installing modern equipment.
Karachi International Container Terminal, South Asia Pakistan Terminals, and Qasim International Container Terminal have also been upgraded to improve their operational capacity.
The Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms, along with the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and other institutions, is playing an important role in developing the maritime sector.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has introduced port digitalisation, the Port Community System, modern cargo scanners, and electronic weighbridges to further improve cargo clearance.
Under the National Dredging Plan, dredging work at ports has been accelerated, while dredging at Port Qasim has been completed.
Faster container clearance, reduced port dwell time, and 24-hour operations have made imports and exports more efficient.
The maritime reforms are helping improve port capacity, trade facilitation, and supporting Pakistan’s economy.
