U.S. Says Trump Giving Diplomacy a Chance as Pope Leo Urges End to Iran Conflict

Waltz said Trump remains committed to pursuing a diplomatic solution and noted that Oman, Iran and other mediators have remained in contact at multiple levels in recent days to keep negotiations alive.

The U.S. envoy said the president is prioritizing talks with Tehran rather than additional strikes, underscoring Washington’s preference for a negotiated resolution to the crisis while diplomatic channels remain open.

Separately, Pope Leo appealed to all parties to immediately halt hostilities and return to dialogue, warning that renewed military operations are causing widespread destruction and placing civilian lives at risk. He expressed concern that attacks by both the United States and Iran on civilian infrastructure are disrupting essential services, including water and electricity, and urged all sides to pursue diplomacy to achieve a lasting peace.
