Iran Warns of Strait of Hormuz Restrictions Over Use of Frozen Assets

Iran’s Armed Forces have warned that vessels linked to any country or company accepting funds from Iran’s frozen overseas assets could be denied passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters spokesperson Abolfazl Zolfaqari said the measure was a response to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the use of seized Iranian assets as compensation.

According to the statement, Iran accused the United States of seeking to use frozen Iranian funds to compensate vessels allegedly damaged during the recent conflict with Iran. The spokesperson claimed the losses stemmed from insecurity caused by U.S. military actions and from ships using what Tehran described as illegal and unsafe southern routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

Warning of consequences if the proposal proceeds, Zolfaqari said any country or company that accepts compensation drawn from Iran’s frozen assets would face restrictions on maritime transit. He stated that Iran’s Armed Forces would not permit vessels belonging to such entities to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a further escalation in tensions over the disputed assets and regional maritime security.
