French DJ and music producer Kavinsky has passed away at the age of 50. His real name was Vincent Belorgey.

According to CNN affiliate BFMTV, Belorgey was found dead at his home in Paris on Tuesday. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of his death, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Kavinsky began his music career in the early 2000s and released his debut EP, Teddy Boy, in 2006. A year later, he joined legendary French electronic music duo Daft Punk as an opening act during their 2007 tour, helping him gain recognition in the electronic music scene.

He achieved worldwide fame with his hit song Nightcall, released in 2010. Inspired by the sound of 1980s synth-pop, the track became widely popular after featuring in the opening scene of the 2011 film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. It was also played during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard confirmed his death in a post on X, paying tribute to the musician. She said France had lost one of its most distinctive musical voices and praised Nightcall for reaching audiences around the world.

French President Emmanuel Macron also honored the late artist, writing on his official Facebook account, “Kavinsky, French pride forever.”

Kavinsky leaves behind a musical legacy that continues to inspire electronic music fans across the world.
