Iran Criticizes UN Chief Over Silence on US and Israel, Warns of Eroding Global Order

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has criticized the international community’s handling of ongoing conflicts, saying international law is being increasingly ignored while violations continue without accountability. In remarks published on Thursday, Baghaei warned that growing impunity is undermining confidence in the global legal system and making it increasingly difficult to achieve or sustain agreements reached through diplomacy.
Referring to the situation in the Middle East, Baghaei said the ongoing crisis has inflicted devastating consequences on both the region and the wider international community. He questioned why António Guterres has avoided explicitly naming the United States and Israel or condemning what he described as those responsible for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of aggression.
Baghaei concluded by urging the UN Secretary-General to fulfill his responsibilities and take decisive action to safeguard the credibility of the United Nations and the international rules-based order. He warned that without meaningful action, the UN risks facing the same fate as the League of Nations, whose failure to prevent global conflict ultimately led to its collapse.
