Iran’s Health Minister Condemns Lamerd Stadium Attack, Praises Medical Response

Iranian Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi on Wednesday condemned the attack on a sports stadium in Lamerd that killed and injured civilians, describing it as a humanitarian tragedy and a “clear crime against defenseless people.” During a visit to the county, the minister assessed the healthcare response and reviewed the medical needs of hospitals treating victims of the attack.

Zafarqandi toured various departments of a local hospital to evaluate healthcare services, treatment capacity and emergency preparedness in the aftermath of the incident. He said the purpose of his visit was to examine the region’s healthcare infrastructure, assess the performance of medical and health networks during the crisis, and identify the resources needed to strengthen treatment and emergency care services.

Referring to the attack, the minister said the victims included civilians ranging from a two-year-old child to young people, adding that the strike had resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. He strongly condemned what he described as US aggression, calling the attack a grave humanitarian crime against innocent civilians.

During his inspection, Zafarqandi met with doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers, thanking them for their efforts in treating dozens of injured patients. He praised the dedication, professionalism and rapid response of medical teams, saying their ability to provide specialized care under extremely difficult circumstances reflected the resilience and commitment of Iran’s healthcare system. “The round-the-clock efforts of our colleagues in managing this crisis and providing specialized medical services to the injured under the most difficult conditions are valuable and deserve appreciation,” he said.
