Finance Minister Reviews Progress on Federal Government Rightsizing

A meeting chaired by the Finance Minister reviewed progress on the federal government’s rightsizing process, including developments across all eight phases. The meeting was informed that implementation of the recommendations from the first four phases was underway following approval by the cabinet, while recommendations from the fifth and sixth phases had been forwarded to the relevant authorities. Work on the seventh and eighth phases is also in progress.

The finance minister said the objective of rightsizing was to improve government performance, reduce expenditures and ensure more effective use of public resources. He emphasized digitalization and improving the efficiency of government operations, while directing officials to fully determine the recurring savings resulting from approved rightsizing measures and incorporate their financial impact into the budget and medium-term fiscal framework.

The meeting also considered reviewing federal government functions, developing a more effective institutional structure, devolving responsibilities and increasing private-sector participation. The finance minister stressed that rightsizing was not simply about reducing the number of government employees or institutions, but about creating a leaner and more efficient structure focused on essential functions. He directed effective monitoring and immediate implementation, while Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik called for timely and time-bound execution of the rightsizing measures.
