Trump Demands Iran Surrender, Threatens Oman Over Strait of Hormuz

18 August, 2026 10:34

Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued his strongest warning yet amid the escalating confrontation with Iran, demanding that Tehran immediately surrender while threatening Oman with military action over any obstruction to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office and later in an interview with Fox News, Trump said he did not believe Iran would agree to what he described as the necessary deal required to resolve the current regional crisis.

Trump openly called on Iran to lay down its arms, signalling that Washington is maintaining an uncompromising position as tensions between the two countries continue.

The US president said the primary reason for the continued presence of American forces in the region was to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Trump’s remarks came after a 60-day ceasefire period between Washington and Tehran ended without a final agreement, with the US president claiming that the conflict had now continued for around five months.

He said Iran should acknowledge the situation and raise the “white flag” rather than continue resisting US pressure.

Despite his aggressive rhetoric, Trump claimed that his administration had maintained direct backchannel communications with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

He described the Iranian force as a “great player” but said it was currently facing serious difficulties.

At the same time, Trump insisted that he was not under pressure to bring the conflict to an immediate conclusion and said there was no specific timetable forcing him to reach a settlement.

His remarks suggested that Washington intends to maintain pressure on Tehran while keeping its military options open.

Trump also issued a direct warning to Oman, a US ally that has played a role in regional diplomacy.

The US president warned that Oman could face heavy bombing if it obstructed efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The threat adds another dangerous dimension to the already tense situation surrounding the strategically vital waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz has emerged as one of the most sensitive points in the confrontation because of its importance to international energy and maritime trade.

Any prolonged disruption in the waterway could have consequences far beyond the Middle East, potentially affecting global energy markets and increasing economic pressure on countries dependent on oil shipments through the region.

Trump’s latest remarks indicate that Washington is prepared to use increasingly forceful language and potentially military pressure to achieve its objectives.

The developments come as diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, while the increasingly hardline statements from Washington and Tehran raise concerns that the confrontation could enter another dangerous phase.
