Driscoll Reportedly Set to Leave Trump Administration Amid Hegseth Tensions

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is reportedly preparing to leave the Trump administration after months of tensions with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, potentially triggering another leadership change at the Army’s top levels. According to a Friday report by highly ranked International media sources, Driscoll is expected to step down before the end of the year and could leave earlier. The newspaper cited people familiar with discussions over his departure and reported that Driscoll and his family vacated the official residence assigned to the army secretary at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall this summer.
The reported departure comes amid continued uncertainty surrounding the Army’s senior leadership. Hegseth abruptly removed Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George in April, while President Donald Trump has yet to nominate a permanent successor. Gen. Christopher LaNeVe, who previously served as Hegseth’s senior military aide, is currently carrying out the chief of staff’s responsibilities in an acting capacity, adding to uncertainty at the top of the service.
An earlier April report by The New York Post also highlighted tensions between Hegseth and Driscoll, alleging that Hegseth had become increasingly concerned that Driscoll could eventually replace him. Citing current and former administration officials, the report said concerns over Driscoll’s standing within Trump’s orbit had contributed to Hegseth’s decisions involving several senior military officials, including George, Gen. David Hodne and Maj. Gen. William Green.
