Man Arrested After Stabbing Attack at Sikh Temple in Edmonton

A man has been arrested after two people were injured in an early morning stabbing attack at a Sikh temple in Edmonton, Canada, police said. The incident occurred at the Nanaksar Gurdwara at around 05:00 local time on Friday. Police said the suspect entered the gurdwara and attempted to access the prayer area before being confronted by staff.
According to the Edmonton Police Service, the confrontation escalated and two male patrons were stabbed. Witnesses intervened and detained the suspect until police arrived. Authorities said officers had initially received reports at around 04:49 of a man walking in traffic on a nearby highway, before receiving calls about the stabbing approximately 15 minutes later. The suspect’s identity and a possible motive have not been disclosed.
The attack comes amid concerns over threats against Sikh places of worship in Canada. Police confirmed last week that they were investigating threatening calls made to two Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary, located about two hours south of Edmonton. The World Sikh Organization of Canada described the latest attack as deeply troubling and said it occurred against the backdrop of rising anti-Sikh hate across the country.
