Sherry Rehman Demands Accountability Over PIMS Nursery Tragedy

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sherry Rehman has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of 14 newborn babies in the PIMS Hospital nursery, saying the tragedy cannot simply be dismissed as an accident. Speaking to the media outside the hospital in Islamabad, she said the loss of newborn lives was painful and unbearable and that the grief of parents who lost their children could not be described in words. She stressed that accountability was essential to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

After visiting PIMS with PPP leader Nayyer Bukhari, Sherry Rehman said the entire country was mourning the deaths and questioned why the hospital’s doors were closed during the emergency. She claimed that the ward door was locked and that people had to break windows to escape, while also saying she had been informed that doctors were not present at the time. Rehman said the PPP was not at PIMS to engage in political point-scoring but insisted that those responsible must be held accountable.

Rehman said the incident was one of the most serious tragedies that could occur in a hospital and announced that she had submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate. Nayyer Bukhari also described the incident as deeply distressing and questioned the PIMS administration’s handling of the situation. Both leaders called for accountability and effective measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
