Maryam Nawaz Unveils Tech-Focused Vision for Punjab’s Youth

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has highlighted technology, artificial intelligence and digital skills as key drivers of the province’s future, saying the government is prioritising modern education and employment opportunities for young people.

Addressing the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026, Maryam Nawaz said big data was rapidly transforming economies and had emerged as an important tool for effective planning and sustainable development.

She said Punjab was taking major steps to develop a digital economy and transform the province into a hub for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

The chief minister said the provincial government was also working to attract investment in the technology sector by creating a favourable environment for businesses and investors.

Maryam Nawaz emphasised that Punjab’s youth possess the talent and potential required to compete in the global technology market. She said greater access to digital education and modern skills would help young people secure better opportunities in the evolving global economy.

She also highlighted the importance of expanding digital governance, saying technology could improve transparency, strengthen government systems and make public services more efficient.

According to the chief minister, big data can also help governments make better-informed policy decisions by providing accurate information for planning and resource management.

She said technology could contribute to addressing environmental challenges as well, particularly through data-driven systems for environmental monitoring and efforts to control smog.

Maryam Nawaz further underscored the importance of Pakistan-China relations, describing the bilateral partnership as being based on mutual trust, cooperation and shared interests.

She said continued collaboration with China in technology and other emerging sectors could create new opportunities for Punjab’s economic development and its young population.
