Iran Ready to Honour Interim Deal If US Returns to Its Commitments, President Pezeshkian Says

BISHKEK: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran is prepared to comply with the terms of an interim agreement reached with the United States in June if Washington returns to its own commitments under the arrangement.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to implement its obligations, provided the United States also fulfilled the commitments it had made under the interim agreement.

According to the Iranian president, if Washington returns to its responsibilities under the agreement reached in June, Tehran would respond immediately by implementing its own commitments.

Pezeshkian’s remarks reflect Tehran’s position that any progress with Washington must be based on reciprocal steps rather than unilateral concessions.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that mutual trust and respect for agreed commitments are essential for moving forward with negotiations.

The Iranian president said Tehran remained prepared to take action under the interim arrangement, but expected Washington to first honour its obligations.

The statement comes as tensions between Iran and the United States have once again increased following recent military confrontations and retaliatory attacks.

The escalation has raised international concerns over the future of diplomatic efforts between the two countries and the possibility of finding a political solution to their differences.

Iran has maintained that it is not opposed to negotiations but insists that any diplomatic process must involve commitments from both sides.

Pezeshkian’s latest comments indicate that Tehran has not completely closed the door to engagement with Washington.

Instead, Iran appears willing to resume implementation of the interim arrangement if the United States takes corresponding steps.

The position could provide a possible opening for renewed diplomatic efforts, although significant differences remain between the two sides.
