Trump Lashes Out at Iran Over Retaliatory Strikes, Calls Country ‘Failed’ and ‘Dead’

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of Iran, claiming that the Iranian government has lost the ability to effectively run the country and describing the Islamic Republic as a “failed” and “dead” state.

Trump made the remarks in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated following a fresh exchange of military strikes.

Trump Claims Iran’s Military and Economy Have Collapsed

Trump claimed that Iran had lost much of its military capability during the conflict, alleging that the country no longer had an effective navy or air force.

He also said Iran’s economy was facing severe difficulties and claimed that the country lacked a functioning currency. Trump further alleged that the Iranian government was unable to pay salaries to members of its military and police forces.

The US president also claimed that inflation in Iran had reached 300 percent, although he did not provide supporting data or an independent source for the figure.

Trump said Iran’s leadership was facing severe internal disorder and was no longer capable of properly representing the country.

Iranian media reports, however, have rejected Trump’s claims regarding the country’s economic situation and inflation, describing them as unfounded.

US Strike on Larak Island Raises Tensions

Trump’s latest remarks came after US forces carried out a military operation against Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military said it targeted two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rocket launchers, alleging that Iranian forces were preparing to deploy sea mines in the strategic waterway.

Washington described the alleged preparations as an immediate threat to commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps condemned the US operation, reporting casualties among Iranian military personnel and civilians and vowing to retaliate.

Iran Launches Missile Strikes on US Bases

Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles toward US military facilities in Jordan, according to Iranian reports.

Tehran claimed that the attacks inflicted significant losses on US forces. Jordan, however, rejected the Iranian claims and said its air-defence forces had intercepted eight incoming missiles.

The conflicting accounts could not be independently verified.

Oil Prices Rise Amid Hormuz Tensions

The latest exchange of strikes has once again heightened tensions across the region and raised concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes.

The renewed escalation has also contributed to a rise in oil prices as markets assess the potential impact of further disruption to shipping and energy supplies.

The developments have added fresh uncertainty to efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major flashpoint in the wider confrontation.
