Iran Claims 1,000 Israeli Troops Killed and Thousands Wounded in Recent War

TEHRAN: Senior spokesman for Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi has claimed that around 1,000 Israeli military personnel were killed and thousands more wounded during the recent war between Iran, the United States and Israel.

Speaking in an interview with Iranian media, Shekarchi also claimed that hundreds of US military personnel were killed during the conflict.

Shekarchi said the United States and Israel were not disclosing the actual number of military casualties suffered during the war.

He referred to previous US military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, arguing that the full scale of American military casualties was not always immediately made public.

According to the Iranian military spokesman, the remains of some US personnel killed in previous conflicts were returned to their families at later stages, meaning that complete casualty figures sometimes emerged only after a considerable period.

Shekarchi sharply criticised the US military, describing it as a “Hollywood and propaganda army” and accusing Washington of using the resources of Muslim countries to serve its own interests.

He said the recent conflict had demonstrated what he described as the gap between the image of American and Israeli military power and their performance on the battlefield.

The Iranian spokesman argued that the war had provided Tehran with an opportunity to demonstrate its assessment of the military capabilities of both the United States and Israel.

Shekarchi also raised questions about the security of countries hosting American military bases in the region.

He argued that governments hosting US forces had now seen that Washington could not necessarily provide complete protection for its own personnel and interests.

“If the United States cannot fully protect its own forces and interests,” he said, its ability to guarantee the security of other countries could also come under question.

The casualty figures cited by the Iranian military spokesman have not been independently verified.

During the conflict, Iran, Israel and the United States issued competing statements about military losses and damage. The figures cited by Shekarchi should therefore be understood as Iranian claims rather than independently confirmed casualty statistics.

His latest comments nevertheless underline Tehran’s continued hard-line assessment of the conflict and its military consequences.

The statements also come amid continuing tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States, with concerns remaining that further military action could trigger another round of escalation across the region.
