Ishaq Dar Congratulates New OIC Secretary-General, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Support

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with newly elected Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and congratulated him on his election by consensus.
Ishaq Dar underscored the special importance Pakistan attaches to the OIC and expressed confidence that the new Secretary-General would make an important contribution towards advancing the interests of the Muslim Ummah and addressing issues of common concern, particularly Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC Secretary-General appreciated Pakistan’s support for his candidature and acknowledged the country’s important role within the organisation.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed also commended Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their efforts in bringing an end to the Iran conflict.
He also congratulated Ishaq Dar on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the agreement as significant for regional peace and security.
Both sides agreed to work closely to further consolidate the OIC’s role in serving the Muslim Ummah and addressing challenges facing the Muslim world.
They also expressed their desire for continued coordination and agreed to hold an early meeting to further strengthen cooperation.
