Pakistan Rejects India’s Statement on Narowal Temple, Says Heavy Rains Caused Damage

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has categorically rejected India’s statement regarding a temple in Ada Siraj, Narowal, saying the place of worship was damaged by torrential rains and that Indian claims are politically motivated.

Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan strongly rejected the statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, describing it as a false narrative intended to serve political interests.

According to the spokesperson, the temple was damaged by heavy rainfall on July 21, 2026, contrary to what he described as Indian propaganda.

He said the local administration had already conducted a detailed survey of the site and rehabilitation measures had been initiated to address the damage.

Sajjad Haider Khan said India was deliberately distorting facts and engaging in what he described as political theatrics.

He said attempts to manipulate the incident could not divert international attention from what Pakistan considers India’s record of discrimination against minorities and attacks on places of worship.

The spokesperson maintained that the damage to the Narowal temple resulted from severe weather rather than any deliberate act against the religious site.

The Foreign Office said the international community was aware of what it described as the use of Hindutva ideology against religious minorities in India.

Sajjad Haider Khan called on the international community to hold the Indian leadership accountable for what Pakistan describes as the continued persecution of Muslim, Sikh and Christian communities.

He said Pakistan remained committed to protecting the rights of religious communities and preserving places of worship on its territory.

The Foreign Office reiterated that facts surrounding the Narowal incident had been established through the local administration’s assessment and that rehabilitation efforts were already underway.
