UN Chief Strongly Criticizes Taliban Over Discriminatory Policies Against Women

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly criticized the Taliban regime over discriminatory policies against women in Afghanistan.

The rights of women, freedom of expression and other basic freedoms continue to face serious restrictions under Taliban rule.

Guterres has called for an immediate end to discrimination and restrictions against Afghan women. He said Taliban policies are affecting women’s lives in almost every area.

According to Guterres, the restrictions on women are a clear violation of their basic rights. He also warned that these restrictions are creating major obstacles to Afghanistan’s economic development, stability and integration with the international community.

The UN Secretary-General also called for the immediate removal of restrictions preventing Afghan women from working for the United Nations.
