IRGC Says Iran Maintains Firm Control of Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says Iranian armed forces remain firmly in control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz and are fully deployed and combat-ready to protect the country’s southern coastal areas. IRGC Deputy Commander Major General Mostafa Izadi said the IRGC, Army and Law Enforcement Force were actively carrying out their assigned missions across multiple operational areas. He emphasized that Iranian forces were fully deployed on southern islands and in other areas, maintaining a high level of readiness.

Addressing the Strait of Hormuz specifically, Izadi said the strategic waterway remained “firmly and forcefully” under the control of Iranian servicemen and indicated that the situation would continue. Iran closed the chokepoint following the launch of the latest round of US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic on February 28. Under a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding reached in June, Iran and the United States agreed to a 60-day reopening period. Tehran subsequently took measures to facilitate safe and lawful transit, but says US violations compelled it to restore the closure.

Iran has linked any reopening of the waterway to several conditions, including the complete lifting of what it describes as the US naval and economic blockade, a durable end to military aggression across the region, including Lebanon, and clarification of the situation surrounding the blockade of Yemen. Izadi said Tehran was also taking “appropriate measures” in response to the blockade, adding that some of those measures had already been implemented.
